Sonic Drive-In 1st Corporate Facts Paper
Sonic opened the first prototype Sonic Drive-In called Top Hat Drive-In in Shawnee Oklahoma in 1953, which was nearly 50 years ago. In 1959 the name was changed to Sonic Drive-In. Today this prototype drive-in has over 3,500 Sonic Drive-Ins coast to coast serving approximately 3 million customers every day. In 2011 the average sales per Drive-In was over a million dollars.
Sonic has continued the personal service of the 1950’s Carhop and they actually have their Carhops outfitted with roller skates as they did in the 1950’s. The Carhops deliver orders right to the customers’ car to add to the personal experience. Sonics founder Troy Smith Sr. began a tradition that continues today each customer is delivered a mint with their order the mints serve as a reminder to the customers they are worth a mint at Sonic.
The menu at Sonic is award-winning and offers unique items which are not prepared ahead of time; they are prepared after the order is placed. This is unique to Sonic in this day and time of fast food organizations which prepare almost all items ahead of time and hold them in a warming area until they are ordered. Along with their unique food items Sonic has more than 398,929 drink combinations of slushes, juices, teas, fruits and flavors all of these choices makes Sonic the Ultimate Drink Stop. One of mine and my husband’s favorites is the Cherry Limeades. Of course to top off the food items and drinks Sonic also served their famous Frozen Favorites treats. My favorite frozen treat is the Sonic OREO blast.
Sonic does offer franchise opportunities to a select group of well-qualified applicants. Sonic Corp. became a public company in March of 1991 and is a common stock traded on The NASDAQ Stock Market, Inc. Sonic Corp. common stocks trader symbol is SONIC, and you can only purchase Sonic stock through a stockbroker. Sonic at this time does not pay cash dividends to its stock holders; rather the company retains its earnings to help the finance the growth of the company.
